The way we dress our window can dictate the ambience of the room, so it’s important that we have a solution that is going to be able to stand the test of time. One way of really creating a focal point in the room is to have shutters installed. There are many selections available, but it’s important that you opt for a solution that is both cost-effective and reliable. While it may be tempting to opt for the cheapest solution, a cheaper shutter type could mean that you’re spending more in the future as a result.
However, even the most premium of shutters needs a level of care, and it’s important that we carry out such duties in the right way.
Overall Care for Shutters
When it comes to opting for shutters, there are plenty of solutions available. As such, we should ensure that we’re operating the shutters in the right way, or we could find that damage occurs, which evidently can be costly.
For example, manual-operated shutters don’t need an aggressive twist when being used, a slight turn would be just as effective, and means that your shutters aren’t being subjected to any unnecessary wear-and-tear
Similarly, those with a motorised set of shutters should not try and open them manually. This can damage the motor moving forwards, regardless of how careful you are. As such, if you’re having problems finding he remote, then it may be worthwhile giving it a dedicated home.
Of course, breakages can occur in some rare instances, so it’s important that we look to get it fixed sooner rather than later. Simply ignoring the damage could mean that it gets worse over time. In many instances, you may find that you’re covered by your warranty, so it’s definitely something you should look into straight away.
Cleaning Your Shutters
Cleaning your shutters is something that is straightforward, although we need to ensure that we’re using the right approach, depending on what kind of shutters we have.
Those who have wooden shutters should avoid using soapy water, and use a feather duster, or a vacuum with a brush attachment. The reason you shouldn’t use soapy water is because it can warp and stain the wood. A feather duster will be able to collect debris, without causing damage to your shutters.
Some may have shutters that have a PVC or paint coating, and while you can use a feather duster, you can also use soapy water, as long as you use a mild detergent. The best solution is often a mixture of water and washing-up liquid. Once you have cleaned your shutters, you should go over with a dry, non-abrasive cloth to ensure that the shutters are completely free of dust.
As you can see, looking after and cleaning our shutters doesn’t need to be a huge ordeal, but it is something we should be doing to ensure that we’re getting the most from our investment.
